The Heart Foundation of Jamaica

	In an effort to fill the need for increased access to less expensive medication, the Foundation opened a pharmacy in 1994. Initial funding was secured through the generosity of The Royal Netherlands Government and many drug companies pledged support for this project by providing funding to establish the pharmacy. Local pharmaceutical companies also assisted by donating an initial supply of medications. Subsequent supplies have been purchased by The Foundation. The general public may use the services of the pharmacy and members of The Foundation receive further discounts. The Foundation is a participating pharmacy in The Jamaica Drugs for the Elderly Programme (JADEP). This programme was started in 1996 by The Ministry of Health in response to the difficulties experienced by senior citizens who could not afford to purchase pharmaceutical drugs. We also participate in the National Health Fund (NHF) programme. The pharmacy stocks not only cardiovascular medication but also has a full stock of prescription and non - prescription (over the counter) medication. Prescriptions may be faxed to our office so that they may be prepared for collection. Original prescriptions need to be presented in order to collect the medication. We accept all debit and credit cards as well as health insurance cards including, Medecus and Sagicor.
