Screening Clinic
A screening programme, at 30 Beechwood Avenue,
Kingston 5 offers
electrocardiogram (EGG) tests, blood sugar tests, haemoglobin tests, blood pressure checks,
cholesterol tests and height and weight checks on a daily basis. The Heart Foundation of
Jamaica enjoys a close relationship with the
Cardiology Department of the University Hospital of
the West Indies (UHWI) from which cardiologists give
assistance with the interpretation of
electrocardiograms (ECGs).
Patients who are discovered to have conditions
requiring follow-up specialist care, are referred to
a private cardiologist or to the Cardiology
Department of the University Hospital of the West
Indies, where a weekly outpatient clinic is held.
The screening services are headed by a
Medical Manager, who is a Registered Nurse. These
services are available from Mondays to Thursdays
from 8:00am - 4:00pm and 8:00am - 3:30pm on Fridays.
Advice is always available with respect to healthy
lifestyles and the prevention of heart disease.
A referral from a doctor is not necessary to access
the services at the Foundation. This assists with
the reduction of costs to the patients, thereby
encouraging them to attend for a check-up. If a
problem is identified, patients would then be
referred as necessary.
