The Heart Foundation of Jamaica has been offering certificate courses in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) since 1984. These courses are offered to health professionals and laypersons. The Heart Foundation of Jamaica is now a training organization for The American Heart Association (AHA). We therefore use the curriculum and manuals of The American Heart Association and where applicable, the American Heart Association certification is given to successful participants. There are several types of CPR courses from which to choose. The goal of all ECC training is to provide learners with the knowledge and skills they need to recognize life threatening cardiopulmonary emergencies and respond to them.
Amongst groups trained to carry out the life-saving technique of heart-lung resuscitation are hotel supervisory staff, water sports personnel, factory personnel, medical personnel as well as interested individuals.

Heartsaver |
This course is
designed for lay responders who are serving
as rescuers as part of their job
responsibility and are not required to use
an automated external defibrillator (AED).
This could include anyone who is being
trained to perform CPR and relief of

Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare providers |
This course is designed for
healthcare professionals, including
physicians, dentists, nurses, paramedics,
EMT’s, nursing assistants and a wide variety
of persons working in the healthcare
industry. This includes instructions in the

Heartsaver First Aid |
The purpose of this
course is to teach participants the
knowledge and psychomotor skills they need
to recognize emergencies at the worksite and
give first aid. Some rescuers are required
to take this course as part of their
employer’s efforts to comply with
Occupational Safety and Health
Administration (OSHA) regulations. It will
be useful for those whose work involves
interaction with the general public, such as
law enforcement officers, firefighters,
flight attendants and lifeguards. 1 Day Course |

Heartsaver First Aid

| Heartsaver FACTS | This course is co-sponsored by The National Safety Council and The American Heart Association. It includes adult CPR, use of an automated external defibrillator (AED) and first aid. It is ideal for industry, businesses and groups interested in or required to implement CPR and Public Access Defibrillation (PAD) programmes with first aid in an environment that serves adult populations. This course meets OSHA requirements for many industries. 2 Day Course |

Heartsaver AED (Automated External Defibrillator) |
This course is designed for
the lay rescuers who participate in a
programme of Public Access Defibrillation
(PAD). It focuses on the needs of a lay
responder who must perform CPR, foreign body
airway obstruction in the responsive victim
and the use of an AED. 1 Day or 2 Day Course |

Heartsaver AED (Automated External Defibrillator) and Heartsaver Paediatric CPR |
This course has the
same content as the Heartsaver AED but in
addition, it is designed for locations that
are likely to encounter paediatric
emergencies. Heartsaver AED can be combined
with the infant and child module of
